You should now be using your Mac in clamshell mode. At this point, you may have to press a key or the mouse to wake up the external screen. When your MacBook Pro’s desktop appears on the external display, you can then close the Mac’s lid. Connect your Mac computer to your monitor using the USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 cable. This, alongside connecting your Mac to power, ensures that it does not power off even with the lid closed, as this would make it impossible to use the external screen. Then, go to Energy Saver and Power Adapter on System Preferences. Some external displays may come with a USB cable that needs to be connected to your Mac for this to work. You may need to use an Apple video adapter. Next, connect your external display to the appropriate port on your MacBook Pro. Then, ensure your Mac is connected to power with the AC power adapter or that your external display is charging the Mac (some do this, but not all). Open the Apple menu on the top left corner of your screen select About This Mac and then select the More Info button. For Bluetooth settings, click the Apple menu, then System Preferences, then Bluetooth and verify that Bluetooth is turned on so that you can pair the devices. To begin with, connect your external keyboard and mouse to your Mac or external display using a USB connection or Bluetooth.
